Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year my students have enjoyed our science units greatly. However, I greatly desire for my students to not just read and talk about scientific principles, but to do experience them first hand!

I teach 22 third grade students in a diverse school that has students of many different backgrounds.

Our school challenges its students everyday to strive for academic success so that they will be on the path to college. My classroom is made up of many young scientists in the making. So many of my third graders express an interest in science daily and have already greatly enjoyed studying butterflies, mealworms, earthquakes, volcanoes, and more this year.

My Project

The reason these resources will be helpful to my classroom and change my students lives is that they will bring our physical science unit alive. While we have some tools at school to bring science alive, we are lacking the resources currently to make our physical science unit hands on. I greatly desire for my students to not just be readers and listeners, but thinkers and doers. Having the appropriate tools will help my students master measurement and understand weight and mass more clearly. Also, the will be able to see matter change from solid to liquid and gas before their eyes with the Bunsen burner.

My hope is that through this project my students will continue to find joy as well as learning from science.

I desire that the concepts that we seek to master will not just be something they have read about, but have seen and experienced first hand.
