We are a low income area with over 50% free and reduced lunch. Daily communication from our families reflect the national economic news. More people are using the food pantry than ever before and paying the bills is becoming increasingly harder which has led to homelessness and moving in with relatives. Many of our students are aware of their family's situation and school is a safe haven and friendly place for them. Our school district is also being force to cut the budget which is already at bare bones and there isn't money to purchase books.

Most of the students' opportunities to learn new things and investigate the world they live in takes place at school. I have a classroom full of eager learners who always enjoy new opportunities. It is such a thrill to watch their eyes sparkle and see smiles that go from ear to ear as they have that AHA moment of learning. My goal is to provide new books to them so they can extend their independent learning by reading.

This project will help provide factual books so the children can continue to enjoy learning as they build their self esteem and literacy skills through science and social studies themes that correlate with the curriculum standards.

Please share the AHA moment with these very young students as they learn to analyze, predict and problem solve about their world while becoming responsible citizens who will want to make a difference! Thank you for your time and consideration of this project!
