Special Education: A Multi-Sensory Reading Experience

My students need a reading and writing literacy activity center which includes word-building cubes, cards, and wipe-off charts; 1 set of magnetic letters; and 3 whiteboards to use for hands-on phonics development; and 1 comprehension skill pack.

I am currently beginning my first year as a special education teacher. My class consists of 14 students who are each on an IEP (Individualized Education Plan).

The students in my class require intensive reading, writing, and mathematics programs. It is my goal to provide a least-restrictive environment for my students in order to increase self-esteem by targeting reading and writing deficits.

I would like to provide my students with a variety of literacy experiences. By setting up daily reading and writing centers students will be able to build on prior knowledge. The centers will allow students to practice and review concepts year-round. This literacy center has several skill-levels. Students will be able to increase the complexity of their learning tasks.

By supporting this project, you will empower my students to be successful, independent, and confident learners.
