Recorders for Third Graders

My students need one soprano recorder each.

My third grade students are really looking forward to playing the recorder this year. They have waited three years and are finally ready to play a wind instrument. I teach elementary music to first, second, and third grade students. Only the third grade students get to play the recorder.

For the past two years I have started the third grade students playing the recorders in music class. At the end of the year the students get to take the recorder home and keep it. This year I received no money to purchase new instruments, which means no recorders for the third graders. They have looked forward to getting to play the recorder for two years now. 98% of the students live in poverty conditions and receive free and reduced lunch, and so their parents cannot afford to purchase recorders for their students. The students go to school and live in the infamous "Corridor of Shame" where the educational opportunities are disgraceful.

I need one recorder per third grade student. In first and second grade the students played many percussion instruments. I would like to introduce and teach them to play a wind instrument in third grade. This gives the students instrument readiness for playing in band in future grades.

With your donation the third grade students will have an opportunity this year to play and own their own recorder. They have their heart set on receiving and learning to play the recorders and with your help their excitement will be realized.
