Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students care about the earth. Our elementary school has 600 students from very diverse backgrounds. Music is something that unites us all. Each year my students learn great songs for our Earth Day celebration. This year I'd like to take it a step further and really get my students to participate in a larger effort. The materials I have requested will help a team of 4th and 5th graders create a digital portfolio of our work. We will sing new lyrics to familiar songs (recycled songs), create public service announcements for our morning school newscast, and plan ways to help our school or community. A digital camera will allow us to capture our creativity. Having examples of earth-friendly materials in our classroom will help children learn to make these choices at home as well. Our ipod can be powered with a solar charger, the pianos will use rechargeable batteries, and we can write with recycled pencils. Let's start NOW! Make a difference to our children and our planet.
