Threatened and Endangered Plant Project Part Two

Over one hundred years ago, President Roosevelt recognized a need to provide wildlife-based conservation and environmental education that would foster responsible actions toward wildlife and related natural resources. One of my goals as a teacher is to assist my students in developing awareness, knowledge, skills and commitment to result in informed decisions, responsible behavior and constructive actions concerning wildlife and the environment upon which all life depends. In my fourth grade classroom, I would like to implement a botany project that would help to repopulate 10 species of threatened and endangered plants native to our state as wildlife habitats. Through this project my students will build a PVC greenhouse, learn about soil composition and conservation, plant life cycles, species identification, wildlife habitats, and conservation methods. Unfortunately, I have no resources available to teach about soil quality and plant metabolism. To bring this project to life, I am requesting a potometer model, a set of plant identification labels, and a Hanna Instruments Soil Education and testing kit. Your donation will provide my students with the resources they need to begin a lifetime of environmental awareness and conservation. Your support of this project will also ensure that the threatened and endangered species that we hope to protect will have the best chance at successful development.
