Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My classroom is full of energetic children, mostly from immigrant families. For some, they are the first one in their family with a chance at a full education. It is my job to help them focus despite the obstacles of family challenges, violent neighborhoods, and language barriers.

Nothing is more interesting than a story about yourself! Any time you look at a picture of a group you were in, you always look to find yourself first. Seeing your own life as a story worth telling, and preserving is a fascinating, exciting, and self-esteem building process for anyone, especially kids like these who have never experienced such a thing before.

By having their own digital camera, my class will be able to capture projects they are proud of, adventures and field trips they want to remember, and they'll never miss a shot because a shared camera wasn't available for that special moment. Next spring, these pictures will be part of a year book they will make to commemorate how far they've come over the past year. The yearbook is guaranteed to be a conversation piece in each of their families, hopefully sparking pride of accomplishment in each child, and the inspiration to keep writing their story next year.

A digital camera never runs out of film, and these kids never run out of smiles to capture. Your gift will truly keep on giving year after year, not just with each new class that gets to use it, but with previous classes that can look back with ever-increasing perspective at the cherished year books it created.
