Digital Devices for Documenting Discoveries

My students need a digital camera, photo printer, and ink cartridges to document their learning throughout their fourth grade year.

My students are the wave of the future. The knowledge they have of technological devices often surpasses my own. I am a fourth grade teacher in the nation's capital and each year I am disappointed in the amount of attention that is given to the wonderful monuments, statues, and history that is located in their very own neighborhoods. This year I want my students to take a hands on approach to their learning. By tapping into their interests, i.e. technology, students will be more engaged in activities and lessons and will be able to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways. From research reports to i-movies, students are genuinely interested when the learning is extended beyond the classroom and applied in real life situations.

My students have the opportunity to collaborate with a non profit organization this year that exposes children to the many historical elements in our city. They will engage in lessons around these field trips and be assessed on their pre and post knowledge. I would like for students to be able to document these and other activities and create an end of the year slideshow that can be used as a resource to introduce the next fourth grade class to the activities, events, routines, and procedures for success that will be expected of them in 4th grade. Students will be able to create artifacts for others in the classroom as well as a movie to showcase to the parents and community that documents discoveries throughout the year.

My students need a digital camera and a printer to be able to document the discoveries they will make this year. These resources will help motivate my students and allow them to demonstrate their knowledge in a variety of ways. Students will create presentations and acquire new knowledge about technology and it's uses. Students can use the software on the computers to create digital artifacts on a variety of topics and then share their creations with the school, their families and the larger community.

You can help make this possible! Please, help my students bring learning to life by helping us receive the resources necessary to document their discoveries about their city and themselves. You will help to motivate my students and arm them with tools that will push their thinking and equip them with knowledge that can be applied in this digital age.
