I teach first grade in a high-poverty school where the students have very diverse backgrounds and needs. These students come to school with few lived experiences and many life challenges.

It is my hearts desire to provide for my students the best education that I can. With the economic downfall, it is a struggle to provide students with all the materials they need in order to be successful. Research has shown that children learn best when they learn with their whole body and brain. They need to hear it, see it, say it, and do it. In order to do this, they must have the appropriate materials that they can manipulate and learn with.

There are some wonderful materials that provide these hands on learning experiences to help children be able to read. Reading is essential for their growth and success in school. If we can obtain these hands-on materials for literacy, then we can help them be successful learners. The Little Red Toolbox Classroom Kit and the Reading Rods materials will allow my students the opportunity to manipulate letters and words that will provide students with materials "that will engage children's minds and hands as they learn essential reading skills. Students will gain a solid foundation for reading as they actively engage in motivating skill building activities".

Your donations will provide students with the opportunity to experience success in learning. These students will have the opportunity to be actively engaged in the learning process while learning essential skills that will help make them successful readers and lifelong learners. Your donation can help make the difference in these children's lives.
