Our classroom for 2009 - 2010 will be a 4th/5th grade split classroom. I will be teaching all subjects. Our public school classroom is in a high-need community that is technologically disadvantaged.

My students are academically talented and need to be challenged to work individually or in small groups while applying technology. A document camera would allow for an opportunity to create and connect presentations for the class.

I am going to use a document camera in many different ways. First, the ability for students to see their own writing projected on a screen will be useful for editing and revising, two traits of writing. Next, students will be able to see a projection of small primary source objects in a larger version in real time. Finally, students will have an opportunity to work individually or in small groups to create their own presentations for class using the document camera to identify primary and secondary sources.

This document camera will provide opportunities for my students to apply technology to many different pieces of their education. By taking the physical world, such as papers, books, artifacts, and creating digital presentations, my students will be able to connect to the creation of such presentations. My students do not have access to technology at home. Every chance that they get to use the computer at school is exciting and this camera would allow me to create opportunities for the students to apply their knowledge and create valuable resources for future classes.
