Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach at a new charter high school in Southern California. Located in an urban community, my school's mission is to empower the youth to become college-bound students. They come from low-income, low-performing middle schools that failed to prepare them for college preparatory classes.

I am always looking for new ways to engage my students in the classroom. I also consider how to efficiently and effectively measure student mastery so that I can provide my students with frequent feedback.

I would like to bring a audience response system into my classroom to engage students and to provide them with instant feedback. This system provides each student with a remote clicker that connects to my laptop. It allows me to pose a question to which students can respond with their clicker. In a matter of seconds, I am able to track how many students understood the concept because the program will aggregate all the data for me.

I would like to bring the student response system to my school as soon as possible because we are beginning to prepare students for the California High School Exit Exam. As we empower our students to attend college after graduation, it is imperative that students are well-prepared for this state test that determines their graduation eligibility. The exam is in March and I would like to use the student response system this semester to prepare my students for the exam so that they may truly become college-bound!
