All children given the opportunity, encouragement, and supplies can read! I teach kindergarten through second grade Title I reading. We are implementing the federally mandated Response to Intervention (RTI) process which helps to early identify and respond to students who are "at-risk" for reading difficulties. I work with Tier III students which are students who are performing below grade level and are "at-risk" for reading retention. I currently have 20 students ranging from pre-school to 1st grade reading levels. Our school is a low economic school having approximately 80% free and reduced lunch students. Thus most of my students receive little to no help at home.

My classroom consists of only the reading materials which were purchased through our adopted reading series and I have limited supplies to provide my students with interesting, appropriate materials. My children deserve to have interactive, hands-on activities which will meet their individual needs and lift them over their obstacles to become grade level readers.

The resources I am requesting will allow my students to work independently and at their individual level to achieve the goals necessary for reading success. The hot dots programs are electronic programs which target individual literacy and help master the five elements of reading. Reading rods provide students the opportunity to explore with letters and sounds and then words, sentences, and comprehension. Both programs provide immediate feedback and will help boost self-esteem which is a large part of reading success. If we experience success we will continue to try.

Your help will ensure my students have materials which provide intensive, individually appropriate activities to become grade level and beyond readers.
