Going green and preserving our beautiful island from litter and debris from being scattered about carelessly is a mission for my students to take on this school year. I teach K-1 through 3rd, 4th, 5th grades in a remote, rural school on an island. The school operates on the funding that it receives as this is a high-need community with a variety of student needs. Most of my students learn best from experiencing hands-on activities and they especially love science!

I want to integrate a hands-on science unit on preserving and protecting our environment; however, I don't have the hands-on materials that will aid in making this unit a reality. My students want to go out into our beautiful environment and experiment with it, but we need some supplies to fulfill our goals.

I found a solution through this website and hope to find support to purchase the supplies. This hands-on science kit will engage my students with learning about our environment and how to protect it. There are several different kits included that will help me teach about soil, water, and other environmental elements. Through the experiments provided from this kit, my students will perform activities outdoors in the environment collecting samples of soil and water and testing it for quality and discuss the samples in a meaningful context. My hope is that this unit will encourage the students to take action to preserve their environment from further damage and destruction.
