My Students

This is my first year as a public school teacher and I have loved every minute of it! It being my first year, my classroom library is a little sparse. My students are a challenging group, but they love to read! Every time I bring new books into my classroom, they can't get enough.

Our school is a Title 1 School and in a high poverty area.

My class is very challenging because most of my students deal with things at home that no child should have to deal with. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. At school we all work together as a family. All of the children are like my own, and I have a personal investment in them. We are trying to change their lives and love them all well!

My Project

These books I am requesting go along with a wonderful literacy unit I discovered called Rooted in Reading. It chooses a read aloud each week of the year to focus on, and includes wonderful lesson plans to integrate literacy skills, writing, reading, vocabulary, spelling, art activities, and much more. All of the activities are based around the book of the week. My class has tested this out using books from the local library and they love it. It would be so nice to own the books and have them in my classroom library to use year after year. These lessons I'm trying to implement are fun, creative, engaging plans, that meet all our state standards and prepare my class for standardized testing. It is a great addition, and goes along nicely, with our school reading series.

I have tried to expand my classroom library and purchase the books to go along with Rooted in Reading but it is not always feasible.

This would be an amazing addition to teaching the reading series. I feel it will greatly enhance my students' learning.
