My Students

I teach Advanced Placement English Language and Composition in upstate New York.

The class is all about words and how words work. We learn about synthesis, argument, and rhetorical analysis. Rhetorical analysis is the "newest" conceptually for students so we need a lot of practice. This t-shirt project is a fun way to play with our words.

My Project

There are a plethora of rhetorical devices out there: synecdoche, metaphor, anaphora, and so on. For this project, each AP student will draw a rhetorical term out of a hat. Each student will then have a few days to make a billboard out of their t-shirt. This billboard will feature the term, examples, and other visuals. Then, everybody will wear their amazing t-shirts on the same day. It will be a big rhetorical party in the hallways and in the classroom!
