Learning To Read In The 21st Century

My project needs 4 LeapFrog Tag Readers, 2 interactive books, a Tag Super Speller, a Tag Funny Phrases and 2 sets of National Geographic Activity Cards.

I teach 2nd grade in an inner-city school district in Maryland. My students come from low-income homes.

It's no secret that children show more enthusiasm and focus when technology is involved in learning. Students learn quicker, and retain more when learning with technology.

The Tag Reading System from Leap Frog is incredible. It allows non-readers to read a story without assistance. It utilizes reading comprehension strategies and skills. There are comprehension activities embedded within the reading. It's perfect for children with low attention spans and high activity levels. It keeps them engaged at their own pace. It keeps them from becoming frustrated, and it challenges at the same time. In other words, it's just awesome.

We need your help. Budget money is so tight, and teachers rarely have any input into what supplies enter the classroom. Your generosity will truly give my students the motivation and extra push they need.
