I am a sixth grade teacher for an inner city public school located in a high-needs area of the city.

This school year, as a way of getting my students motivated about learning and more interested in the field of science and technology, I have decided to pilot inquiry-based learning. After see how excited my students were last year from only two projects, this forced me to attend various workshops and learn more about this type of learning. The obstacles I now face is acquiring hands-on equipment and activities for my students to use. Helping them to make a connection to the real world is difficult when you lack the necessary materials.

For starters, my Innovative Investigators will need microscopes, triple beam balance scales and science journals. These necessary materials will help to lay the foundation for future scientists. Many of these students have never handled a these instruments.
