Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Every four years USA send their best prepared athletes to compete in the Olympics. Every year thousands of children go to school without materials. I teach bilingual first grade in an inner city school in Rochester, NY. The poverty ratio is 92%. Our school has a huge population of English language Learners as well as Students with Special Needs. Even though the lack of materials in Spanish is a problem regular materials are scarce too.

Children can't afford notebooks and the ones provided are not appropriate for first graders. Paper to write and illustrate stories is always in demand. Small children are visual, I use a lot of manipulatives and visual cues to grasp the students attention.

I am asking for a donor to donate 20 composition notebooks (1 for each child),table top writing paper for the writing center for young minds to create stories, word building blocks and magnetic letters for the ABC Center for them to form words, picture nameplates and magnetic clips to visualize where they need to be in the classroom,and book boxes, one for each to keep their reading materials all in one place.

Please I encourage all of you to support this for my first graders. We feel so proud about our favorite sports team when it is doing well and makes it to the finals. We feel so proud every time an American wins a medal in the Olympics. Let's also show our students that we are proud of them by getting them ready for this race... The race of preparing and molding our students.
