Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach students in Pre-School through 8th grade. Over 75% of students in my school receive free or reduced price lunch. Many of my students do not have access to technology in there homes and love seeing and being able to use it in the classroom. I teach every student in the school including high-risk, and special education students. Our special education students have a range of disabilities that include autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, and many more.

I currently use Apple's I-tunes and an I-Pod to store and play all of the music I use in class and after-school activities. If I used CDs I would be pulling 4 different CDs out per class, and I teach 7 classes and say and at least one after-school activity which may use anywhere from 1 to 5 CDs. So without the ability to store all of the music on the computer I would be using up to 33 CDs a day. Talk about annoying and wear and tear on a CD player!!!

The computer in my room is full, I cannot save any more documents or music on it without erasing some of the music I have. This external hard drive will allow me to continue to find more music to help my students learn. We can sing a cappella all the time, but the students really love singing with the CDs. "It sounds like we are rock stars!!!" I've heard them say. Even if I accompany on the piano it does not promote the same enthusiasm as "Are you ready to sing with the CD?!?!?"

This tool will enhance learning in my music classroom, by allowing me to keep all of my files and add so many more. The students love hearing "their music," and learning musical concepts with it.
