My students need one digital camera to make history come alive through creating a documentary about their city's history.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Davis's classroom raised $432
This project is fully funded
I teach third grade in Title One school in Oregon. My class this year consists of 29 children who are eager to learn. Within my classroom there are wide range of learners from special education students to gifted students.
Each year third grade students all across Oregon learn about the city that they live in. I have spent the past two years using the 20 year old text books provided by the district along with other resources that I have found to teach children about their city. This year I want to make our social studies unit on our city come alive by having the children create a documentary about how our city has changed over time. To complete the project the class will split into groups based on interest. Each group will research one of the following topics: daily life, people, transportation, schools, city growth, and architecture. We will conduct research by: using the Internet, utilizing school and local libraries, interviewing community members, going on field trips, and inviting guest speakers in to discuss certain topics.
To create the documentary children will need a digital camera. They will need to take photographs of the places we visit and will have to make video clips of interviews. Our documentary will promote teamwork, research skills, creativity, knowledge of the city, and technology skills.
We would greatly appreciate one digital camera to capture our research digitally to make our documentary. Your kindness and generosity will motivate my students to learn more about the history of the city that they live in. Your gift will not only be a gift for this current class but will be used by many classes in years to come.
