My Students

There is a Chinese proverb that states, "Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I'll remember; involve me and I'll understand." A document camera will allow my students with many different learning styles to be successful through learning through seeing, hearing, hands-on activities, and much more.

I teach in a Grade 5 Special Education and English Language Learner Inclusion classroom.

My students range in ability over several grade levels in the area of Math, Reading, and Writing. By the time they get to Grade 5, some of them begin to realize that they are behind their classmates. It is my passion to change that and help all of them be successful.

My Project

A document camera is a much more advanced successor to overhead projectors. This newer device allows teachers and students to project anything that is placed below the digital camera onto the whiteboard with great detail and color. A document camera can be used daily and across the curriculum in all subject areas. Visual learners will benefit from this technology because materials can be displayed in a more efficient way, and bodily-kinesthetic/tactile learners will be able to manipulate materials under the camera while explaining what they are doing. Document cameras can also be used to share educational information found in a power point presentation, an Excel spreadsheet, on the Internet, and much more. Students can also easily share their successful work with the class without re-writing it on an overhead transparency, which is very time consuming and messy. The addition of a document camera in our classroom will open my students to learning in a whole new way.

My students and I need your help to bring this technology into our classroom.

From seeing and learning about Escher's tessellations to analyzing primary documents from the American Revolution, a document camera will assist me in teaching my students using technology that is interactive and engaging. Also, through exposure to new technology, students will be more prepared with the tools and knowledge they need to excel in the ever advancing world around them.
