Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students enjoy math so much more when they learn a concept while using manipulatives. Many students need hands on activities in order to understand the material from the concrete to the abstract. I didn't learn with manipulatives however I do see the value of using them with students today.
Our school has provided the classes with some manipulatives but I have to make paper manipulatives to supplement. I would like to get more math manipulatives for students to use and to continue to promote success in math...a subject many students have difficulties with because it seems detached to them. Students tend to have difficulty understanding fractions until they are able to use manipulatives. There are games that can be played with manipulatives too.
With more manipulatives in the classroom, to teach a variety of concepts- fractions, place value, geometry, and word problems. I believe students will learn and enjoy math much more.
