I teach in an urban middle school in a medium-sized city in the South. "Phineas Gage: The Gruesome But True Story About Brain Science" is an award-winning non-fiction book that excites children. I loved this book and I know my 7th grade science students will love it, too. I plan on having the students read the book during out lesson on the nervous system. The conversational writing style and "gory" details will capture attention and keep them interested in our unit on the nervous system. Not only will this book help them learn science, but it will improve their reading comprehension skills.
