My students need a listening center, a class set of wireless headphones, and comprehension skill packs to hear fluent reading and improve their literacy skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Listen Up! My students struggle with the english language and do not hear enough fluent reading at home. They need a motivating way to practice basic reading comprehension skills.
My students are second graders who love to learn.
They go to a K-5 school with a high ELL population. They also live at a low socioeconomic level. These students have not had the opportunity to develop pre-literacy skills at home; hence, they struggle with reading and other language skills.
My Project
With a listening center, my students will be able to hear fluent reading as they follow along with the print. This will allow them to build their reading comprehension skills as well as their own fluency rate. The listening center skill builder cards will allow my students to practice necessary reading and vocabulary skills in a motivating format. They will listen to the lessons on the CD and complete the activity on the laminated cards. The listening center will be used by each student on a daily basis.
All students need to hear fluent English in order to learn the language, and many children are auditory learners.
A listening center will give me the opportunity to reach those learners on a continuous basis.
