Very Vivacious Vodcasters

My students need an iPod and microphone in order to utilize their 21st century skills and creativity in a collaborative project that will benefit our entire school.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Are we preparing our students for the REAL WORLD they will be living in, or for the world we grew up in? Technology is a part of our students' lives everyday and will increasingly become more important for them. Let's prepare them for what the future holds, not what we once had.

Our school is located in a rural farming community in Iowa, but you wouldn't know it from walking through our halls.

We have a high minority population which provides us with the unique challenge of having 37% of our students qualify for ELL classes. On top of that, we also have approximately 80% of our students qualifying for free and reduced priced lunches. Our 4th grade classroom of 22 students is no different. They come from very different backgrounds, but all enjoy using technology would love the opportunity to share what they can do with the rest of the school.

My Project

Our students and teachers alike consistently focus on collaboration in all areas of education. Technology is one way for students to really shine and show their talent and expertise. We are requesting an iPod Touch and microphone in order to further collaborate school wide. The students will be using the materials to create vodcasts, similar to an audio podcast, except it would include video as well. These vodcasts will be created by our class and shared with all students and staff bi-weekly. Each vodcast will include a Character Counts spotlight to showcase our values as a CC! school, a Where in the World segment to highlight the diversity of our students, a favorite Read Aloud to model fluent reading for our ELL students' benefit, as well as other monthly themed segments such as President's Day, World Read Aloud Day, and Earth Day. As we follow the Gradual Release of Responsibility model, students will soon become responsible for the entire production of each vodcast.

Our school is in a unique situation, which provides us with many opportunities for learning, but also many challenges, especially in the area of funding opportunities.

Our students are ready and willing to learn and share their knowledge, however, we are limited in the amount of technology exposure that we can offer them. Please help our students to be prepared for the technology that they will be surrounded by in their world outside of school!
