Hooray! This project is fully funded

Hello! I am a fourth year Kindergarten teacher in Durham, North Carolina. I am lucky to have a fabulous class of curious, smart, and special five year olds. One of the science themes we study throughout the year is animals and their life cycles. During the year we are able to watch caterpillars turn into butterflies, tadpoles turn into frogs, and grubs into ladybugs. Last year we tried to hatch eggs in our homemade incubator, but unfortunately it is harder to make an incubator than we thought! Although we had a great time learning about them, unfortunately the eggs never hatched. This year I would like to try the unit again, this time with a real incubator! The kids get such excitement out of watching the butterflies emerge that I know watching an egg hatch would be a memory they would remember forever. In addition to learning about animals and their life cycles, it would also be a lesson in caring for animals. We would have to feed, water, and care for the chicks. This is a wonderful way for the children to learn responsibility as an important life skill and how to care for animals. Without a doubt it would be one of their favorite Kindergarten experiences. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my proposal and for your generosity towards our children!
