Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

In my resource classes I am always looking for a way to change the way I deliver instruction. Students with disabilities tend to have much shorter attention spans than regular education children. In my class I have an overhead projector. It is a common teacher tool, but one with great potential to involve students. Since I must use a wheelchair for mobility, the height at which I can write on the board is limited. All children can not clearly see what I am writing. An accessible overhead will enable every child to clearly see what is being written. As an added plus, the kids think writing on overhead transparencies is cool! I currently have an overhead on a cart, but it is much too high for me to use so it sits in the corner. Placing it on a desk isn't an option as I would require assistance setting up and removing. I know they make "short" carts because I have used one during my student teaching in college in a school in NJ.
