Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Though I had an excellent first year teaching kindergarten, there were a lot of extras that my students were missing. Unfortunately, I work at a school were there is no money for drama, art, gym or music instructors. My students come from diverse backgrounds, and many are on the free lunch program and do not have money for "extras".
Since I am in charge of teaching all electives, I strongly feel that a keyboard for our classroom would change the learning environment not only during music time, but throughout the day. During music, I would build a repertoire of children's classics and songs related to our other subject areas. Students could also introduce the class to music from their different cultural backgrounds.
We would use the keyboard throughout the day as a way of welcoming students into the classroom, transitioning them from different activities, and ending the day with a song. In addition, family members could come in and share songs with the students.
I would use the keyboard as a starting point towards building a substantial musical instrument collection that would serve my students for years to come. Your support would make a world of difference to my students. Thank you so much for your valuable donation.
