DonorsChoose.org grew out of a Bronx public high school in the Spring of 2000, and the idea began to take off.

In 2008, donors like you have funded $4,804,580 worth of resources for students in need.

This generosity has encouraged 46,407 teachers in 14,733 public schools to submit 103,295 project proposals for their students. Most of these students come from low-income communities.

The projects funded at DonorsChoose.org have supplied 1,098,680 hours of instruction and homework. Resources provided were:

43% classroom supplies
3% field trips
0% class visitors
8% other resources.

Of these materials, 79% are re-used by next year's students.

All this thanks to 70,245 individuals who have made 145,387 donations to student projects at DonorsChoose.org. Our donors, whom we call citizen philanthropists, come from all walks of life and from every state in the country. Surveys revealed that 75% of our donors are first-time givers to public schools!
