After six years of teaching in New York City schools, I have decided to embark upon a new adventure in Chicago Public Schools. As I transition into a new environment, I do not have a set classroom library. I want to ensure that my students have a library that engages them throughout the year. These leveled texts will allow students engagement, stamina, and love of reading to grow. Additionally, this will also allow my students to develop their reading identity. They will be exposed to a variety of different series and genres to identify what they love to read. My goal is to create a classroom library filled with books that students can lose themselves in and can help them learn about the world around them. This list will provide my classroom with a solid start to their first grade year.
