In my classroom I believe in giving my students choices. One of the biggest choices I give my students is where they sit and what they will sit on in my room. Currently I have floor cushions, Hokki stools, and regular chairs available to my students. Flexible seating allows my students to be comfortable while learning. Gone are the days of sitting in a chair and working all day long.
Classrooms that are student-centered are successful. By giving my students additional seating options, I am empowering them to choose the seating options that best helps them learn and best keeps them comfortable in the classroom. Yoga balls have been a favorite of my students in the past, but I always had trouble with them rolling away. The ball chair gives the students the ability to utilize the yoga ball, and the ball stays where it is intended to be. I also appreciate the flexibility of the ball chairs, as they could also be moved to our meeting space with ease.
Flexible seating also teaches my students responsibility. In order to utilize the flexible seating, they have to learn the rules and respect them. Flexible seating, especially the yoga ball chairs, require a lot of responsibility as they are fragile and misuse could result in broken chairs or, even worse, hurt children.
By donating to my project you are empowering my students to learn responsibility and are empowering them to take control of their own learning environment.
