The mission of this project is to develop the computer scientist in all my students. I will be introducing my class to Ozobots this year. I already have the Ozobots which were ordered from the manufacturer and paid for through SES here in Thomasville Georgia. Some of the students in my program (GATES - Gifted and Talented Education Services) have used these robots before. These robots are so leveled and unique that the students will enjoy working with them again in the upper grades even if they have experienced them in the past. In the lower grades we will be programming these robots using the color coded markers they come with but I would like to step this up with my 4th and 5th graders. Ozobots have a feature that allows the user to hack into them using an iPad. Once in, the user can program the Ozobots to move. With moving Ozobots I would like the students to choreograph some movement involving two or more Ozobots. I would really love to give my students an opportunity to use iPads in this way. In today’s classroom young people tend to mainly be consumers of technology and not creators of technology and this is not necessarily because of a lack of interest. Most students just need an opening to get connected to their field of interest.
