My school is a Title 1 school in East Austin. It is an extremely diverse school with about 29 languages spoken there. We have very little parent support mostly due to the language barrier. This year Manor ISD has decided to start a Gifted and Talented Academy called AIM. It began with my principal and I coming together to discuss the needs of our kiddos at our campus. We have over 100 identified gifted students who's needs aren't being met. The teachers are expected to get their class to mastery and beyond when almost half of them come in a grade level behind. Our student population lacks exposure to the world around them. The goal of the academy is to provide that exposure, a rigorous learning environment, a creative outlet, problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, and foster a love for learning. The majority of the students I will service find themselves bored in the classroom because their teachers are so consumed with their many demands. Please help us reach them.
