My students are active energetic preschoolers that need a stimulating imaginative play center that encourages learning. Our school is located in Alaska- 43% of our students qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. I have tried to make materials, such as super hero capes, out of old donated t-shirts that will foster imaginative play, but my students need more hands-on materials. My students love the dramatic play area! One of their favorite things to do is pretend that they are firemen, but I had to throw away the flimsy plastic hats because I could no longer repair them leaving only one hat in the center. My students need this center so they can continue to learn about their community and world while they are simultaneously improving their speech and social interactions. I also plan to use the center to reduce students' fears surrounding doctor or dentist appointments, as many of my students have severe anxiety.
