This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are a diverse mix—many are English language learners, several have high energy or attention needs, and every single one brings incredible enthusiasm to learning.

Like most students, my kids are full of movement and ideas, but traditional desks and chairs don’t always work for them.

After long blocks of reading, writing, and math, I watch them fidget, lose focus, or need constant reminders to stay seated. Research shows that giving students the option to stand while working improves blood flow to the brain, strengthens posture, increases engagement by up to 15%, and helps kids channel their natural energy in positive ways.

That’s why I’m so excited to create a dedicated Stand-Up Work Area—a flexible learning station where students can choose to stand or perch comfortably while they work.

This stand-up desk will create a spot in our “Stand & Learn Station.” A student who normally fidgets through a 30-minute writing block will be able to stand tall, stay focused, and produce their best work.

This is about giving my students choice, movement, and ownership over how they learn best. It will build healthy habits, support different learning needs, reduce distractions, and help every child feel successful and confident in our classroom.
