Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every day, my students show up ready to learn, even when something as simple as expressing a thought or asking for help feels impossible. Especially in STEM, I see the excitement in their eyes when they understand something new, and the frustration when they can’t share it. My students have so much to say, they need a way to say it.

For my nonspeaking and minimally verbal students, communication barriers can be isolating.

Imagine knowing the answer but not being able to share it, or wanting to make a friend but not having the words. Too often, their voices go unheard, even though their ideas and personalities are so strong. They deserve the chance to participate fully, to be understood, and to connect with others in meaningful ways.

An iPad with communication apps will give my students a voice. It will help them express their needs, share their ideas, and engage in learning and social interactions. Assistive technology like this helps students access their education and communicate effectively . This project is about more than a device, it’s about giving my students the ability to be heard.
