The excitement on my students' faces when they saw it for the first time was unforgettable. They gathered around it in amazement, immediately brainstorming all the possibilities. This tool has become one of the most engaging additions to our classroom, igniting curiosity and creativity in ways I've never seen before. Students who once struggled to stay focused or engaged in traditional lessons are now some of the most enthusiastic participants during our laser-based projects.\r\n\r\nWe've integrated the laser into a variety of lessons, starting with our STEM design unit. Students created and cut their own custom keychains, learned about vector design, and explored how technology intersects with creativity. As the year continued, we expanded into school-themed projects, making custom signs, awards, and classroom décor. What's been most powerful is watching students take ownership of the creative process, from brainstorming ideas and designing prototypes to operating the laser and fine-tuning their final products. The hands-on learning has boosted not only their technical skills but also their confidence.\r\n\r\nThe laser has also helped us celebrate major holidays in fun and meaningful ways. For Halloween, students designed spooky bookmarks and hanging decorations for our classroom door. Around Thanksgiving, we engraved wooden leaves with messages of gratitude to create a \"Thankful Tree.\" December brought festive excitement as students created ornaments and personalized gifts for their families. Valentine's Day gave us a chance to design and cut custom heart-themed keychains, and for Veterans Day, students created etched plaques and thank-you tags to honor local veterans. These projects gave students a sense of purpose and pride, and often led to important conversations about culture, community, and giving.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're eager to tackle more advanced design challenges, including 3D puzzles, school signage, and even student-led fundraising projects using the items they create. The laser hasn't just provided a resource, it has sparked a culture of innovation, problem-solving, and joy in my classroom. Thank you for making this possible. Your donation didn't just buy a tool, it opened a door for students to see themselves as creators, makers, and future engineers. We're truly grateful for the opportunity you've given us to dream bigger.","fullyFundedDate":1670529938901,"projectUrl":"project/pew-pew-laser-spark/6954543/","projectTitle":"Pew Pew Laser Spark!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carpenter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8821884_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1667100756172","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8821884"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_39416","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":545,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":57,"percentIndigenous":21,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":77.8,"schoolId":39416,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Riverton Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Riverton Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wyoming/fremont-county-school-district-25/riverton-middle-school/39416"}
