At the beginning of the year, it was to get to know them, and they created commonality list of what everybody had in common. Then we transitioned into looking at a picture that was drawn on an e-learning day, and then they had to create a list of as many nouns as they possibly could find, including listing whether they were common or proper. And now we are transitioning into, they will be given a task such as finding a part of the plot diagram, when they are ready for their work to be checked, they can use the light to indicate that they are ready for me to check.\r\n\r\nThis year students are much more engaged with what we are working on because they have to be facing the board, standing vertically themselves, and engaging at task at hand. Whenever I am working with vertical classrooms, there are no students who are with their head down, very few are not focused on the task at hand, and we have been getting better results on our assignments.\r\n\r\nMy next goal and working with the students is to start looking at projects that are more intense, not just writing common and proper nouns down, but looking at a piece of literature and looking for themes or the parts of the plot diagram.\r\n\r\nI can't thank you enough for donating this money so that my students can be more actively engaged in their own learning.","fullyFundedDate":1752608448197,"projectUrl":"project/building-thinking-classroom/9451312/","projectTitle":"Building Thinking Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McLarnan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9521465_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721757447755","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9521465"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38102","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":812,"numTeachers":59,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":71,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":"13.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":52.9,"schoolId":38102,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ben Franklin Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ben Franklin Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/stevens-point-area-public-school-district/ben-franklin-junior-high-school/38102"}
