The books you helped provide have become the backbone of an incredibly rich, integrated learning experience—one that has pushed my 4th–6th graders to think deeply about history, identity, justice, and whose stories are centered.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just put books in students' hands. You helped open their eyes.\r\n\r\nWith the addition of these new texts, students have been learning essential reading skills—like analyzing character development, tracking themes across multiple works, and gathering evidence to support their written ideas—but the learning has gone far beyond that. These books have allowed us to explore powerful concepts such as cultural identity, displacement, resilience, and the importance of hearing the stories that too often go untold.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active, communal, and joyful.\r\n\r\nStudents meet in small groups, annotating together, pausing to ask questions, and making connections to our history lessons. They take notes, discuss, debate, and return to the text to refine their thinking. It's not unusual to hear a student say, \"This reminds me of what happened in Indian No More,\" or, \"Omakayas feels the same way as Mary did during the removal.\" They are seeing literature as a larger conversation—one that includes their voices.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who once hesitated to participate are now some of our most confident thinkers. One student who had never finished a chapter book before proudly announced that she \"couldn't put our book down\" because she wanted to understand what happened to the characters. Another student—normally reluctant to share—has begun raising his hand daily, connecting historical events to moments in the text with clarity and insight.\r\n\r\nYour support has allowed my students to see themselves as readers, historians, and truth-seekers.\r\n\r\nThese books have sparked empathy, curiosity, and long, thoughtful conversations about whose stories get told and why that matters. You made that possible.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our classroom and for giving my students stories that help them think deeply about the world and their place in it.","fullyFundedDate":1748537726323,"projectUrl":"project/year-long-integrated-study-of-westward-e/9383318/","projectTitle":"Year-Long Integrated Study of Westward Expansion, Native Americans and Ecology","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Megan Bray","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6778384_orig.jpg?crop=360,360,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748449612879","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/megan-bray"},{"teacherId":2573388,"projectId":9209865,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for your generous support of my Donors Choose project. My speech and language therapy students had so much fun using the materials you helped provide. Even more importantly, the materials and toys provided opportunities for language and vocabulary development and mass practice (that was FUN) for articulation/speech sounds. The children excitedly said their target words 10x before feeding the Goliath Pop the Pig, anticipating him to explode open! They also were able to practice their sounds over 50x using the paint daubers which helps them reach the research-based threshold for numbers of practice repetitions before a new sound begins to emerge in children. They made garden scenes in Spring using the foam stickers, practicing fine motor skills and spatial concepts such as Above, Under, and Next To. Our Preschool Speech and Occupational therapy team had a blast making Unicorns and other creatures from the Craftikit sets. We read stories that went along with the craft to help enrich their vocabulary and literacy development. They practiced following directions, spatial concepts, body parts and identifying and naming common words. Thank you again for supporting educators and ultimately the children that we serve. Your donations helped so many children become better communicators.","fullyFundedDate":1743691419385,"projectUrl":"project/providing-fun-and-joy-to-early-communica/9209865/","projectTitle":"Providing Fun and Joy to Early Communicators","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Maggie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2573388_orig.jpg?crop=2988,2988,x0,y179&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1649185837480","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2573388"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38143","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":153,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":27,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":28,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 7","studentTeacherRatio":"6.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":68.8,"schoolId":38143,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Goodland Montessori School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Goodland Montessori School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/racine-unified-school-district/goodland-elementary-school/38143"}
