Specifically, they are learning about the batik process. Your supplies that were donated to our school are being used to make our school's \"prayer flags.\" Rather than religious, we talked about how their heart flags symbolize the message of love, compassion and kindness to those walking through our halls. \r\n\r\nThrough the batik process, students used the glitter glue which acts as the hot wax in the traditional process. Students painted in the open areas, scrubbed the glue out which revealed the white areas of the fabric. They are currently working on sewing yarn and adding the donated beads to them.\r\n\r\nThis project has been very engaging for the students. As a teacher, I was very proud to see students sew with yarn and a needle independently as they knew what to do from 2nd grade. What made it even more extra special was watching their confidence helping those students new to our school this year.","fullyFundedDate":1739374259876,"projectUrl":"project/batik-heart-prayer-flags/9006706/","projectTitle":"Batik Heart Prayer Flags","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Stark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9372110_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1700534672229","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9372110"},{"teacherId":9581788,"projectId":9138516,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom project! What a difference it makes to have the right tools which in the end makes for happy kids and a happy teacher. I love to introduce projects where students can learn about upcycling items to make art. The 3rd graders completed their cardboard relief, 3-dimensional sculptures. It made a world of a difference having the proper tools. It allowed them to get tiny details as I stressed the more details and layers, the more effective it will look. Last year the same project was done but classes struggled as they did not have enough normal sized scissors. \r\n\r\nFor 3rd graders, students feel special anytime they can use \"big kid\" tools and as expected, that is the reaction that I got. The Makedo safety cut saws made them feel powerful and independent in the classroom. We talked about making safe choices with the provided supplies and it was reassuring to see they could abide by that in the art room.\r\n\r\nThank you again as these tools will come in handy for multiple grade levels and projects. Hope you enjoy the photos of the 3rd grade animal sculptures. I am so proud of how hard the kiddos worked and how they took their time on all the lovely details. The students that really benefit from these tools come in for an extra art session in a smaller, group format. It is nice to provide them the one-on-one help that they might not get in the general art class. It allows me to assist them with fine-motor skill work with the donated tools. \r\n\r\nThe texture rollers are amazing! We did not have any on hand and they are a tool that \r\n in my opinion, every art room should have. This has convinced me to put them on the general supply list for next year. The students use them to roll paint to make textured paintings. We just made textured, heart ceramics and the rollers worked really well. Students also use them to practice \"rolling,\" and \"pushing\" into the theraputty as well.\r\n\r\nTheraputty is another wonderful tool that we never had in stock until this year. Having the \"extra soft\" to \"firm\" options are nice for students' hand strengths. And what a life saver that it does not dry out like playdough. The classroom pack, large handled brushes make projects more efficient and easier to grip for hands. The Buddha Board is the ultimate tool that every teacher should have in their classroom, no matter the subject. This can really benefit any child that might need a mini break. What a great way to calm down, using only a brush and water. \r\n\r\nThank you again for the adaptive tools for our art room!
