At this age, students can be easily distracted, and headphones allow each child to clearly hear directions, stories, or learning activities without outside noise. This means they can follow along more independently and stay engaged longer. Headphones also make it easier for me to give students activities that match their individual needs—whether they're practicing phonics, listening to leveled reading passages, or working through math games at their own pace.\r\n\r\nThe students love that the headphones make their learning feel \"just for them.\" They enjoy listening to stories, practicing sight words, and using reading apps where the clear audio helps them hear every sound and syllable. Many of them also enjoy the feeling of ownership—having their own pair of headphones makes the activity feel special. For some, it even feels like a fun \"grown-up\" tool, which boosts their motivation.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who struggle to stay focused during whole-group lessons have really benefited from using headphones. With the background noise reduced, they're able to concentrate much better and complete activities more confidently. I've also seen shy or hesitant readers become more enthusiastic when they can practice quietly without worrying that others can hear them. The headphones give them a safe, comfortable way to build skills at their own pace—and their confidence is growing because of it.","fullyFundedDate":1761684181177,"projectUrl":"project/voices-that-matter-headphones-for-lear/9852992/","projectTitle":"“Voices That Matter: Headphones for Learning”","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Yang","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10327039"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_37737","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":403,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":79,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":64.0,"schoolId":37737,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about River Trail Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"River Trail Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/milwaukee-public-schools/river-trail-elementary-school/37737"}
