With the funds received, we were able to gift students more choice during our independent and buddy reading time. This means that students can self select books that are of interest to them. In first grade many students are just learning to read or have grown a solid base in reading between kindergarten and first grade. By choosing a variety of themes including both non fiction readers as well as well loved fiction stories, students have been more excited about reading and building more stamina to read on their own and grow their love of reading!\r\n\r\nAs we end first semester and transition into second semester, more students have begun to realize that they are readers!
