Before they can focus on academics, they need to feel safe, cared for, and confident that their basic needs will be met. Thanks to your donations, we now have additional resources to provide both practical essentials, such as snacks and hygiene products, as well as tools that support students' social-emotional growth.\r\n\r\nStudents have been thrilled to see these items arrive. What may look like a granola bar or a stick of deodorant is, to our students, a reminder that they are seen and supported. The \"Grab & Go\" station you helped stock has already given students access to basic hygiene items that many don't have at home, while the books and conversation cards you funded are giving me new ways to connect with them, open dialogue about mental health, and build the skills they need to thrive inside and outside of school.\r\n\r\nOne student's story especially highlights the power of having these resources available. This student has struggled with hygiene for much of their life, and it has often left them feeling isolated and stuck. Recently, they began showering at school, and this week for the very first time, their words changed from \"I can't shower\" to \"I get to shower later this week.\" That shift, from a place of limitation to one of dignity and choice, reminds me why having supplies and supports like those you generously provided is so important. \r\n\r\nThese donations are so much more than materials. They are the conduit for meaningful connections. They give me the ability to say \"yes\" when a student knocks on my office door in need of a snack, a conversation, or just a safe place to be. They help me live out my philosophy as a school psychologist: that students do well when they can, and meeting their basic needs is the first step toward helping them succeed.\r\nIt brings me to tears to know that there are people like you all who understand this impact and choose to invest in it. On behalf of my students and myself, thank you for believing in them and in the power of education that meets the whole child.","fullyFundedDate":1756327317819,"projectUrl":"project/meeting-kids-basic-needs-to-set-them-up/9484721/","projectTitle":"Meeting Kids' Basic Needs to Set Them Up for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Noethe Wolford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10086856_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y181&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754489178547","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10086856"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_37527","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1014,"numTeachers":72,"percentFrplEligible":55,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":69,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"14.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":83.3,"schoolId":37527,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Central High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Central High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/la-crosse-school-district/central-high-school/37527"}
