All year long my kids have heard me talking about the sheep our family raises on our farm. They have seen pictures and have watched the lambs frolicking around on the \"Lamb Cam', the camera set up in our barn. The students were very interested when we discussed shearing the sheep and they were very excited when I brought in the clean, raw wool from one of our ewes. That's when the real magic started. Each student took a turn at hand carding the wool to align the fibers. This repetitive motion helped to soothe my students with anxiety disorders and allowed every student to feel the texture of wool. Once we had the raw wool carded into soft, fluffy fibers, students began to wrap the fibers around their bars of soap. Students helped each other and supported our special needs students. It was so inspiring to see how much they care about each other. When the soap was blanketed in a layer of wool, my students added some dyed roving for a pop of color. The soap was then lowered into warm water and rubbed to felt the wool around the soap. The kids loved this part! They maneuvered the soap in their hands until every fiber was secure and we had lather everywhere. The whole room was filled with smiles and the smell of soap suds! After letting the soap dry overnight, students took the felted soap masterpieces home to share with their families. Thank you so much for making this memorable project possible!","fullyFundedDate":1736636122560,"projectUrl":"project/felted-soap-fiber-art-for-everyone/8798226/","projectTitle":"Felted Soap Fiber Art for Everyone!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thompson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp781707_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1542658712186","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/781707"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38249","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":803,"numTeachers":52,"percentFrplEligible":30,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":90,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":77.9,"schoolId":38249,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Greenfield Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Greenfield Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/baldwin-woodville-area-sd/greenfield-elementary-school/38249"}
