It was a resounding success because of your support. Our junior class shared their stories with four different classrooms of elementary students, and I could not be prouder of them. Many students worked hard to create stories that would interest and engage their elementary readers. I listened to stories about a family's new puppy to a runaway pick-up truck. Our high school students are endlessly creative, and they appreciate your support in bringing their stories to life as books! \r\n Many of our students took their books home as memorable moments from their high school career. However, a few students did donate their finished books to our classroom library as examples for future writers. As an English teacher, I greatly appreciate all of the writing and publishing opportunities that our students have, especially with the support of those of you who donated to this project. I hope to continue fostering a fantastic writing and reading community from kindergarten to graduation! Our students are gaining valuable hands-on experience learning to operate and manage the equipment. They recently organized and ran a dance for our elementary school, handling everything from setup to execution.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the equipment will be used at our upcoming Prom. Students will curate the playlist, ensure all songs are appropriate, and research how to sequence the music to keep the energy high and the crowd engaged. This initiative not only provides meaningful learning opportunities but also significantly reduces costs, allowing us to keep Prom ticket prices affordable for all students.\r\n\r\nWe are deeply grateful for your donation. They felt special to know that community members cared enough about them to buy them special extras. \r\n\r\nWe used the burner to sauté the greens we grow in our hydroponic unit. All of the students tried the sautéed greens (which was pretty brave of them!) and many said they would try to sauté more veggies at home. We have used the burner to make mozzarella cheese and jello (learning about how gelatin is made) as well. Having the burner in class frees us from needing the FAC (Food and Consumer Studies) room to cook.\r\n\r\nWith the mushroom grow kits, we had immediate success. We sautéed a batch of mushrooms with butter. Some of the students had not tried mushrooms except on pizza. In a later flush, I pickled the mushrooms. They are still brining, but the kids are excited to try something new. For middle school students, they are very adventurous eaters.\r\n\r\nWhile the mushroom growing kits are used up, we continue to use the burner to cook veggies we grow in class. These donations made a lasting contribution to the food education of my 8th grade students. With them I can open doors to sustainable and self-produced farming and food.
