The results have been stunning. We had almost completed our unit by the time the materials arrived, but they made our review fun and, the kids were even able to answer their test questions by creating the working example of what the questions was asking. \r\n I haven't seen them have so much enjoyment as they did when the boxes arrived. I included pictures of the best part of the project: when they first opened their kits and saw what was inside. Can you imagine 4th graders yelling because you saw dragon clamps or compasses and a doorbell? They were so excited to begin the first experiments.\r\nThe students have already asked that we come back to the kits for the last weeks of school because they wanted to do \"Fun Things\" at the end of the year after State testing. \r\nThe gravity marble mazes have been just as fun. The have talked about the effects of speed, the curvature of the maze and the distance traveled. Some have tried to challenge themselves by trying to design and build a gravity maze that causes the balls to travel upward. That one hasn't been accomplished yet.\r\nMy students were very grateful to you for their kits. They nicknamed them the \"Ultimate Science\" kits.\r\nI could never have afforded these on my own. I usually purchase bits and pieces with my own or supply money. In 33 years of teaching, I have honestly never had a complete Electricity Exploration kit. We thank you for your generosity. We discussed that definition in Reading class today, and the kit came to several students minds as an example.\r\nWe sincerely thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1730073771713,"projectUrl":"project/how-does-electricity-travel/8605807/","projectTitle":"How Does Electricity Travel?","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Neal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2586936"},{"teacherId":7879887,"projectId":8556065,"letterContent":"Your generous donation has allowed me to use phonics stories to explore spelling rules with my students. These books have increased my students abilities to understand phonemic awareness skills, difficult spelling patterns, and overall have a better understanding of the rules in our language. \r\nThese books are requested during read aloud time, the students thoroughly enjoy hearing real life attributes given to letters. The poetry books have allowed my students to explore poetry, hear, poetry, and pick out specific skills, such as blends, digraphs, and vowel sounds. The poetry books are specifically requested each intervention class. These students are below level in reading, but hearing these poems has allowed them to become aware of sounds and patterns in words. \r\nBoth poetry books and other books purchased go directly with our Orton Gillingham curriculum. So, the cross over and repetition has helped students grasp these tricky spelling rules/patterns.","fullyFundedDate":1728146220528,"projectUrl":"project/books-for-phonics-lessons/8556065/","projectTitle":"Books for Phonics Lessons","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Callison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7879887_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1686515549301","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7879887"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38847","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":413,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":91,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":67.9,"schoolId":38847,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lewisburg Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lewisburg Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/west-virginia/greenbrier-county-school-district/lewisburg-elementary-school/38847"}
