The winning book is the Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Award (WCCPBA) winner for the year. These books are always extremely popular in the library where I teach. I have been teaching my students about literary awards so that they can use the award stickers on the books as a guide like a five-star review to spotlight great books. I have a poster up in my library showing the WCCPBA winner since 1982 and the students frequently ask for my help finding them on the shelves. \r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity I can bring this annual Washington state process to my students K-2 at both of my schools. Your generosity is impacting the literary experience for 220 students! They are enjoying the process of listening to a new book each week when they come to the library, keeping track of the books we have already read and asking themselves how much they like the current week's book. They show me their opinion of the book with the following scale: double thumbs up= Loved it!, one thumb up= liked it, thumb sideways= it was fine, and thumb down= not my favorite. It will take 20 weeks for us to finish all the books, at which point we will do a quick visual review of all twenty then they will each get to vote on their favorite. I will enter our school's top choice in the Washington Library Association website along with the other Washington schools that participated. The winner will be announced by the Washington Library Association in early June before school gets out. The anticipation is already building. \r\nThank you for supporting this exciting and enriching experience for the students at my school.
