Students continue to utilize the tools we received on a daily basis! \r\nAfter receiving the items in the mail, I waited till they came so I could do an unboxing with the class. Students were touched by the enormity of the graciousness given to our class. They were surprised that a stranger would give so many resources to our classroom. Then, they immediately wanted to break them out and get their hands on them. First, we sent some ground rules on how we would be using each tool and what the goal was of receiving these things. Then, the students had some play time before we actually started incorporating them into our academic time. \r\nStudents are utilizing several of the items in our break spaces that I have in the classroom. When they need to regulate their emotions or take a break from learning, they walk to one of the break spaces. They sit there and utilize a tool of their choice. Pop-Its, playdough and sensory tubes are always one of the first things students reach for. These tools are a testament to the importance to self-care and mindfulness in academic settings. \r\nThe weighted animals have also been a valuable resource providing support and comfort for students that struggle with regulation. These tools help students stay in a specific learning spot. A couple of students have really benefitted from using them. One student that was working on just staying in the room, now stays in the room much of the time. Thus, this student can listen and learn during instruction. The weighted animals are also used to support students that are dysregulated and need some comfort. Several students have used the animals for this purpose. \r\nYour donations have truly impacted the learning of students in the classroom.
