In the past three weeks we have worked with 70 high school students from all demographics and all musical abilities to form bands and learn cover songs. In addition, students have been building guitar effects pedals and designing stickers and t-shirts (which we are printing today!).\r\nThe project is fun and chaotic, but having a reliable way for students to tune their guitars and basses before launching into a practice session has made the work so much easier, so I thank you again for your donation. I wanted to write a short letter to let you know about the impact your support has made. \r\n\r\nMusic Club meets after school every Monday. We spend the start of the club time setting up gear and practicing individual instruments. The last half of the club time is spent jamming together on simple cover tunes, like \"Seven Nation Army\" or \"Louie, Louie.\" \r\n\r\nThis year with added equipment for playing, singing and storage we have had more enthusiasm and success than ever! We recruited two student interns to organize and decorate a fully-dedicated media room to accommodate instruments and practice. Music Club players learned to play an extended repertoire of covers, including titles by Sublime, Radiohead and Pixies. Jam sessions were going so well, in fact, that club members decided they wanted to perform for the public during our school-wide Winter Showcase. \r\n\r\nAfter just three sessions of practice, members of Music Club were able to perform three songs for a jam-packed room of dozens of classmates, parents and community members. The room was electric! It was so great to see the growth each performer had made in just a few months, and it was greatly enhanced by your contribution of amps, microphones and storage materials. \r\n\r\nI am sending along some photos and videos of club members performing so you can see the excitement firsthand. Video link: bit.ly/BandFun253\r\n\r\nIn the future, we will be offering a Miniterm (similar to J-term in college) for students to form their own small bands, leading up to a performance at a local venue. We anticipate a group of 75 students, so every bit of your donated materials will be put to good use. \r\n\r\nYour generosity means the world to us, and truly it has allowed our club go from a ragtag bunch of instruments into a coherent program with a future.","fullyFundedDate":1757479466300,"projectUrl":"project/build-a-band-music-club/9674354/","projectTitle":"Build-a-Band: Music Club","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Mylet","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10237461_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y579&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756831289707","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10237461"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_123273","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":393,"numTeachers":13,"percentFrplEligible":62,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":48,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"30.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":61.5,"schoolId":123273,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about School of Industrial Design Engineering and Art (Idea) on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"School of Industrial Design Engineering and Art (Idea)","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/tacoma-public-schools/idea-high-school/123273"}
