We are just a few days into our new school year, and the new radios are working SO much better for us? There is so much less feedback and cross-talk on the radios. The reception is clearer and there's a lot less \"repeat please\" coming across.\r\n\r\nHaving quality radios is critical for the safety of our staff and students. When we can't rely on our equipment working properly, it puts our entire school community at risk. While these radios aren't thousands of dollars, the cost of them is prohibitive for me to purchase with my small building budget. I cannot begin to describe the glow that came over each student's face when I opened our new box of books. As I introduced the titles and previewed the cover and synopsis their eyes grew wide and there were gentle 'ooooh' and 'aaaahhh' sounds around the room. They couldn't wait to get their hands on these titles.\r\n\r\nMy students desperately needed new grade level texts that were appealing to them; relatable characters and experiences. One child brought a book over to me during class the other day and says, \"hey, her parents are divorced just like mine!\" Finding those small connections makes kids feel more better understood and books are a safe place to have some of those big feelings. Some other kiddos were so eager to read a book about a boy from the Philippines like their parents that they had to rock-paper-scissors to decide who would get it first. Now I hear them chatting about it in the lunchroom and during dismissal.\r\n\r\nThank you for lighting up a love for reading for my 3rd graders. Thank you for helping me bring books to our class that had more in common with the readers of my room. When the box arrived, our class was so excited to see the new supplies. I told them that there are some very kind people who wanted to cheer the students on by gifting them the tools they need to succeed! The students were so happy to hear the story behind the tools for success.\r\n\r\nThe students take pride in their work as they use the markers to apply newly learned math concepts, create their own sentences using word wall words, and express their creativity to draw the elements of a story they've read in small group. They take pride in collaborating with peers and having the space to draft their thinking before presenting. \r\n\r\nThese experiences are a result of your generous donations to a fabulous class of first graders!
